ART

We give our secondary students opportunities to undertake art in two and three-dimensional media. Art is a way of creating and communicating through the human imagination. It stimulates creativity through thinking, senses, and feelings.

In KS3 of secondary school, students study art history, art criticism, and aesthetics, and they focus on creating art. They build their appreciation, exploration, and curiosity about art while exploring various drawing materials, techniques, and subjects.

Students enhance their observation and accuracy in drawing as they progress through a variety of assignments like still-life drawing, landscape drawing, figure studies, portraiture, and painting. They can use a wide range of drawing and painting media like graphite, charcoal, ink, pastel, oil pastel, coloured pencils, acrylic, and watercolour.

Students can improve their compositional understanding by applying the elements and principles of design to their sketches and drawings. They study a variety of famous artists to discover how they're relevant in art history and then create their own art to respond to different cultures and the world around them.

At BSY, we encourage exploration and experimentation in the studio environment, focusing on developing abilities in creative thinking and conceptualisation.
